How long do you work?
It varies from job to job. A 3 hour slot is very common, but depending on circumstances it can be less, or if at a Trade Show it can be considerably more.
What are your normal charges?
Again it can vary from job to job depending on how far I have to travel, the hours I am booked etc etc. Send a quick email to me outlining your requirements and I will promptly reply with a quote.
How long does each drawing take?
I am about average with most other caricaturist in that one face on A4 will take 4 to 5 minutes approx. Drawing a couple on A4 with slightly smaller faces can be done in approximately 7 minutes. Beware of others who claim they can do it in around 2 minutes. Would you go to a Dentist who advertises himself as “The quickest Dentist in town”?
Do you draw in colour as well?
Yes I can add colour if required. The only factor to take into consideration is that it takes slightly longer, meaning that I can do more drawings during a session in b/w than I can in colour.
Do you wander around and draw or sit down and have guests come to you?
I can do both. It all depends on the type of function. If I am booked over a dinner, then I have to mix and mingle at the tables, whereas at a Ball or Trade Show sitting down in often the best option.
Do you give anything for the guests to keep their pictures in?
Yes I always give the pictures out with a clearview plastic sleeve, so that they can show other people without taking the drawing out.
Do some people get upset with their pictures?
Very very rarely. If you look at my style I like to think they are quite kind (particularly to the ladies!!) If you learn nothing else in this job it is that people will soon let you know if they dont like what you are doing!!
Is it not intrusive to go up and draw people when they are eating at a table?
No not at all. I can stand slightly back from the table, and the guests can carry on eating and talking whilst I am doing the picture.
